Each of the past thirty years I have written one or more stories for the Christmas season. Some of these tales were written for friends who were professional readers and who took these stories to Christmas audiences around the world. Some of these stories were written for my family. It was one of our Christmas traditions; Dad read a new story each Christmas Eve. My kids put up with it. I enjoyed the writing. I share them with you now, praying that you will enjoy them as well.
I have finally begun to gather some of my stories together in one place. The first nine appear in this volume. I intend to publlish additional volumes each Christmas for the next few years until my library of Christmas tales is exhausted. My family is grown and gone now. You are my new Christmas Eve audience.
Some of my friends and family will recognize some of the characters in these stories. I am a bit like a painter who needs a live subject in front of him to complete his work. Each of these stories is fiction, but each of them is based on an incident or a person I have known.
Because many of these tales were written while we lived overseas during my foreign service years, these stories were also a way to connect us with our traditions back home in the United States. We learned so much from Christmas celebrations in other nations. One of the things we learned was how blessed we were to be a part of a national and family tradition that honors Christmas as a sacred and unique celebration.
I hope these stories remind you of some of your traditions. I hope you feel free to share these stories with others. Moreso than any other possession we have, Christmas is not to be kept to ourselves.

I loved the stories, nothing fancy but well written and interesting. I can understand why Garland's children were anxious for the stories.
